We speak truth to power.

We ensure our work complements, reinforces and adds value to on-going work of governmental, non-governmental organizations and intergovernmental bodies with the goal of collectively advancing gender equality.

Our partnerships span governmental ministries, civil society organisations, international development partners, academic institutions, and regional bodies including the African Union and ECOWAS. GDG's value lies in the strength of the relationships we build — ensuring our research amplifies, not duplicates, existing efforts toward gender equality.

Our Approach

Methodology

Seven Pillars of Work

We ensure that our work complements, reinforces and adds value to on-going and emerging work of governmental, non-governmental organizations and intergovernmental bodies with the goal of collectively advancing gender equality. Our partnerships span governmental ministries, civil society organisations, international development partners, academic institutions, and regional bodies including the African Union and ECOWAS.

A quantitative composite tool which provides a scientific assessment of disparities in participation by sex across selected sectors of society. The Index broadly captures gender gaps, progress and achievements in legal equality, decision-making levels in politics, public service and private sector, time use, access to services e.g., justice, education (enrollment, retention and completion) from primary to tertiary levels, sexual and reproductive health, and access to productive resources. The Index is accompanied by a report which captures both the quantitative and qualitative components of the findings. The Index is informed by the United Nations Development Programme's Gender Inequality Index; the UNDP Gender Development Index; the World Bank Group's Women, Business and the Law series; the Women, Peace and Security Index of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security; and the Social Institutions and Gender Index of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

We proactively track planning and allocation of public resources, including the Consolidated Fund, to determine the extent to which the phases of budget preparation, design, distribution and allocation across relevant sectors, promote gender equality.

The law is dynamic. Therefore, we track its evolution and growth through a gender lens and advocate for legal and judicial reforms. Where necessary, we undertake strategic litigation before national judicial and quasi-judicial bodies as well as regional and global bodies such as the African Court on Human and Peoples Rights, the ECOWAS Court of Justice and Communication Procedures of relevant United Nations Treaty Bodies to redress violations of the human rights of women and girls and to draw attention to Ghana's global and regional human rights obligations.

We convene stakeholder meetings to provide dedicated spaces for distilling and disseminating the outcomes of research that we undertake, with a view to collective consensus building on solution-oriented proposals to relevant institutions and bodies.

We design and deliver institution-specific capacity building interventions to increase awareness and enhance capacities to promote gender-responsive enabling environments for gender equality to thrive.

We influence change in favour of women and girls among policy makers, gatekeepers and other duty bearers through evidence-based proposals and demonstrable results.
